LONELINESS KNOWS MY NAME By Brown Toyin

LONELINESS KNOWS MY NAME

Loneliness knows my name
He calls me by my first name
He calls me thrice per hour
And I answer seven times per minute!

See how weary I have grown
See how worn out I now look
So sickly and so sad
My throat gone so dry and sour
My eyes wander in the empty space
Waiting to hear his call again
Ever ready to scream my unending response!

Loneliness refuses to forget my name
He even remembers my maiden name
And never fails to remind me whose daughter I am
He sits still in my bed
And intermittently says to me,
“Tonight, your guest I shall be!”

Now the night has come
I listened so hard outside the my door
And so keenly I strain my ears
Just to hear mother’s call
Lo, it’s still loneliness’ shrill voice I hear!

“Please let me go,
I think I heard my husband’s call”
Then he smiled and said to me,
“Don’t worry my dear;
I am the one that calls!”
